Hry govt gets Rs 2,331 cr as tax arrears from 1,874 dealers

Chandigarh, Jul 6: Haryana government received Rs 2,331 crore in tax arrears from 1,874 dealers in the state under the One-Time Settlement Scheme for recovery of pending dues, Finance Minister Abhimanyu said today. He said the government received Rs 2,232.20 crore of tax arrears from Panipat alone under the scheme. "Out of the total arrears, the refinery of the Indian Oil Corporation alone accounted for Rs 2,230.98 crore and remaining Rs 1.22 crore was received from dealers in Panipat," the Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister said in a release. He said in districts Gurugram and Sonepat, more than Rs 45.75 crore and Rs 10.77 crore were recovered from 359 and 137 dealers, respectively. He said more than Rs 46.57 lakh was recovered from 22 dealers in district Ambala, more than Rs 85.02 lakh from 38 dealers in district Bhiwani, more than Rs 10.45 crore from 333 dealers in district Faridabad, nearly Rs 99.20 lakh from 46 dealers in district Fatehabad and over Rs 1.78 crore from 65 dealers in district Hisar. Likewise, recoveries were also made from dealers in Jhajjar, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Rewari, Palwal, Nuh, Rohtak and Yamunanagar. The minister said the settlement scheme was launched on June 22 to minimise litigation, reduce the burden of defaulters and mop up dues under various Acts administered by the Excise and Taxation Department. A defaulting trader opting for the scheme would have to pay full amount of tax levied or leviable under various Acts for the period up to March 31, 2017. He would get 90 per cent waiver on interest and 75 per cent on the penalty amount. In cases of suppression of tax or attempt to evade tax, one can get 50 per cent waiver of penalty, he added. PTI
