UP government to honour state funeral for Buddhist monk Pragyanand, says Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 03 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid his last respectsto the Buddhist monk Pragyanand in Lucknow. Pragyanand was the Buddhist monk, who taught and initiated Dalit icon Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar to Buddhism, died on Thursday at the age of 90. He was admitted to the Lucknow's King George Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Center on Sunday after he complained of breathlessness and chest pain. Remembering the Buddhist monk, U.P. Chief Minister said that Pragyanand gave his whole life to Buddhism and state government has decided to honour him with a state funeral. Buddhist monk Pragyanand came to India in 1942, and later, on April 14, 1956, he initiated Dr Ambedkar to Buddhism along with seven other disciples. Born in Sri Lanka, Pragyanand was the seniormost priest at Baudh Vihar Mandir.
