Summer season’s Thirst Quencher : Gulkand Shake
Roses have been used not only as a sign of love but they also have many culinary uses and have many health benefits. The essence of roses is used in aroma therapy and many beauty products also as they enhance beauty in many ways as it augments the glow and complexion of the skin. To relieve from the effects of hot and humid summer season or to feel rejuvenated, try this cool and refreshing thirst quencher. This healthy drink is very easy to make and quite inexpensive. Ayurvedically, this drink is very beneficial to calm sadhaka pitta dosh which governs our emotions and mental state. If someone feels constantly irritated then this drink daily is quite beneficial. For women, sipping this drink is quite helpful during menstruation. Rose petals enliven all the body tissues by enlivening the cell-regeneration process. It has great cooling properties and is anti-inflammatory. Thus, it helps to control hyperacidity. Rose petals are cooling yet it supports the digestive fire or Agni and helps in good digestion. This unique quality makes rose petals tridoshic which makes it balance all three doshas. Rose petal spread or gulkand is prepared by sun-cooking rose petals and sugar in the glass jar for 15 days. This thirst quencher is prepared using this gulkand in milk or water. For lactose intolerant people, this drink can be mixed with water. Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- ½ tsp fennel seeds or saunf
- 1 pod cardamom seeds (crushed but not powdered)
- 1 small piece of licorice root of mulethi
- 1 tbsp. of gulkand or rose petal spread
- Boil milk with cardamom seeds, fennel seeds and mulethi for five minutes. Let it cool down.
- Mix one heaped tablespoon of Gulkand or Rose Petal Spread. Mix it well.
- Serve it cold.
