Kaala: The First Indian Film to Be Released in Saubi Arabia

Saudi Arabia opened its first cinema in over 35 years on April 18 as part of a deal with the world's biggest cinema chain AMC to open up to 40 theatres in some 15 Saudi cities over the next five years.

Kaala has become into the first Indian film to release in Saudi Arabia. The South Indian Tamil language film stars superstar Rajnikanth as a powerful gangster in Mumbai. Kaala is directed by Pa Ranjith and co-produced by well known actor Dhanush who recently made his international debut in The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir directed by Ken Scott.

Just like Hindi language Bollywood, the South Indian film industry likewise summons a sizeable audience both at home and abroad. Saudi Arabia is home to an Indian diaspora population estimated at 4.1 million - 13 percent of the aggregate population - making them the greatest group in the kingdom. In the neighboring United Arab Emirates, where Indians also dominate , Bollywood has become a growing force.
