Panchayat polls begins in Punjab amid tight security

Amritsar (Punjab)/ Ludhiana (Punjab), Dec 30 (ANI): In Punjab, polling to elect sarpanches and panches for 13,276 villages begins amid tight security. The voting began from 8:00 am and will end at 4:00 pm while the counting of votes will take place after conclusion of the polling. With upped security, panchayat polls began in Punjab?s Amritsar and Ludhiana city. People have gathered in large number at a polling centre in Majitha Halka in Amritsar city. A heavy police force has been deployed in the rural belt and on the outskirts of the city in order to ensure secure panchayat polls. The panchayat polls have witnessed violence in the past so all necessary arrangements have been made to hold smooth, transparent and peaceful polling this time.
